Snow Drops

January Brings Snowdrops

Snowdrops symbolize innocence and purity.

Snowdrops aka Galanthus: Originally they were believed to be a wildflower native to Britain, Snowdrops are actually native to Europe and the Middle East, where they have been cultivated since the 16th century. They were brought to Britain by the Romans.

When I think of Snowdrops Pearls come to mind, symbolizing purity, simplicity and elegance.

They bloom in January and February in New Jersey and as a result, have often been considered to represent hope!

Interesting Facts

Lore
A Moldovan legend describes a fight between Lady Spring and Winter Witch; details show that at a point in the battle Lady Spring cuts her finger. The drop of blood melted the snow and a Snowdrop flower grew. The pure white flower was a sign of Spring’s victory over Winter

Legend

According to myth, Persephone, the goddess of spring and nature, was forced by her uncle Hades to inhabit the underworld for the autumn and winter months, then brought Snowdrops with her from the underworld when she returned to Earth each spring.

Pearls

Pearls are classic and unique. Unlike other gems that form in nature, pearls are cultured, grown inside molluscs in the ocean and freshwater. An irritant is placed inside an oyster in the ocean, for example. The nacre (an organic-inorganic material), also known as mother-of-pearl, forms layer by layer around the irritant to create a pearl over time.

What I personally love about wearing pearls, is that their iridescence brightens up my face.

Care of Pearls

Store pearls in a soft container. Pearls can be scratched by metal jewelry

Keep your pearls dry. Damp threads fray and eventually break.

For cleaning genuine pearls, use a microfiber cloth for glasses: Don't use soap and water for the reasons stated above.
