Out of the clear blue sky comes August

Out of the clear blue sky comes August

This month we continue our life in color journey focusing on one of my personal favorites, Blue!

Blue represents loyalty and faithfulness, depth and power! It fits so well with our theme of Blue jewelry for August. Constant and unchanging as a blue sky, hopefully, we’ll see lots of blue skies this month!

Thank you for taking this journey with me, I hope you are enjoying it. Happy August

Gina

Blue

There are hundreds of shades of blue…cobalt, cyan, navy, cornflower, midnight, ultramarine, French, royal, periwinkle…..

In the world of gems, which ones are blue? Sapphires in various blue shades…topaz…tourmaline…aquamarine…zircon… iolite

Did you know that blue is the most popular color in the world, both in personal preferences for men and women alike, as well as for usage in business logos?

Since blue is associated with “calm, trust and intelligence,” so many corporate logos are blue – Think American Express, HP, Dell, General Electric, LinkedIn, Twitter and many, many more.

Interesting Facts

The Hope Diamond (pictured here in the National Museum of Natural History) is 45.52-carat and was originally extracted in the 17th century from the Kollur Mine in Guntur, India.

The diamond has been surrounded by a mythology of "curse" that brings misfortune and tragedy to anyone who owns it or wears it! Of course it is strong believed that this was fabricated to enhance the stone's mystery and appeal.

Ancient Egyptians were very fond of blue Most Western cultures at the time didn’t even have a word for blue

To the Egyptians however, it represented the sky, the Nile River, creation and divinity

The color pigment blue was first produced around 2500 B.C. and used frequently by scribes, in hieroglyphics on walls, and as a glaze on funerary objects and coffins

Blue was traditionally a “girls color” It was generally accepted as such and referenced in a 1918 trade publication. Blue was seen to be “more delicate and dainty” whereas pink was a “more decided and stronger color”.
