Life in Color

Life in Color

Happy 1st of March. We are going to be focusing on Life in Color for the next few months.

March makes me think of St. Patrick’s Day, and St. Patrick’s Day makes me think of green. There is, however, so much more to green than St. Patrick’s Day!

Thank you for taking this journey with me, I hope you are enjoying it. Gina

Interesting Stories

Shakespeare created the relationship between green and envy. In the Merchant of Venice(1590’s) he wrote “ green-eyed jealousy…” In Othello (1603, Iago mentions “the green-ey’d monster, which doth mock/The meat it feeds on.”

The “Bahia Emerald” was discovered in 2001 by a prospector in northeastern Brazil, not an area known for valuable gems. The entire lump, was humungous, at 840 pounds (weighing the same as a male polar bear). It landed in a New Orleans warehouse in 2005, and escaped damage from Hurricane Katrina.

It has been used in several fraudulent business dealings. Gullible potential buyers were told that it involved a journey through the jungle on a vine-woven stretcher and mauling from a panther or two. Currently, the emerald is valued at $400 million and caught up in a California lawsuit where many people have claimed to have bought the stone in the years since its discovery. Brazil wants the stone to be repatriated. The tale of the Bahia emerald is truly one of avarice.

Emerald

Bright blue-green color, yellow-green. A good example is the Fabio Angri stacking rings one is blue-green, one is more yellow-green.

Green Tourmaline

Green Tourmaline – fine leek hues, intense yellowish-green, olive green, dark bottle green. The Afghani smooth tourmaline necklace – that along with pink, shows green tourmalines on my website is a lovely example.

Tsavorite Garnet

Tsavorite Garnet- bright yellow-green to green. Fabio’s tsavorite garnet and diamond frog ring really highlights the color dimensions of tsavorite.

Peridot

Peridot – is a yellowish-green to greenish-yellow stone, it looks so pretty coupled with a diamond in a pendant.
